A big hello!
Thank you so much for taking the time to peek at my blog! My name is Liz Mytton and I’m a playwright, poet, trainer and coach living in Greater Manchester. I love all things creative, including writing, theatre, film, music, dance and art, and like to dabble in various crafts – crochet is my long-time obsession. Taking of obsessions, I also have OCD, so I talk a lot about mental health and wellness, as well as race, equality and justice issues – so brace yourself for some light reading!
As for my CV, I spent years working in housing and education ‘up norf’ and then moved into training in community development and organising. I worked as a freelance editor, performed in and produced community theatre, and made various faltering attempts at social entrepreneurship. My Achilles heel? Boredom. I need to be stimulated constantly and have the attention span of a flea (maybe this is unfair to fleas – if so, I apologise.) In 2013, I took part in the Critical Mass writing programme at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry. This led to me developing my first full-length play, Red Snapper, about a group of Jamaican women during the Cuban Missile Crisis (a runner up for the 2016 Alfred Fagon Audience Award). Since then I’ve worked on several projects, some personal, some by commission, and I can always be found with a notebook full of indecipherable scribbles that I plan on unpicking for future glory. I love working collaboratively but love working from my bed even more. I fantasize about being fit and am aiming (pretty low) to run a sub 30 second 100m and do ten proper press-ups before I die.
I hope you enjoy my musings – click here.
